Interesting. Do you know what the price is? I know the MAP oversize front rotor and bracket is $365. Fred also sells a "Braking Oversize Rotor Kit" for 87-94 KLR's (or KLX ?) for $249 http://www.map-engineering.com/brakes.htm John --- bkowal@... wrote:

John, I believe the Galfer and M.A.P. kits are the same, it's just a matter of where you get the best price. If the Braking kit you refer to is the same one that the previous owner of my A11 put on, the bracket is a P.O.S. and will crack. Note to George and Bogdan: I'm in the greater Anthrax metropolitan district right now on biz, but I'll check with the machinist about those new brackets when I get home. Thanks for being patient. They are indeed the same animal. I have the M.A.P setup on my KLR and love it. Some think that it is a bit strong for off-road work, but I haven't had any issues with mine. My only problem has been the spring clips that join the rotor to the carrier. They have lost their spring and the rotor rattles a bit. Gino

I have been trying for years to get the Braking Systems oversized rotor in stock and have given up on ever seeing one of those. This rotor was different from the MAP rotor because the Braking rotor is a solid rotor and the MAP is a floating rotor. Didn't you have a Braking rotor Gino and have some warpage problems? MAP is making the rotors for Galfer and Galfer is making brakelines for MAP. I guess one hand washes the other. :-) Fred www.arrowheadmotorsports.com

Never had a Braking system OS Rotor, but heard horror stories of how badly they warped from many riders including Elden Carl. They were on the verge of bringing in a floating rotor and twin piston caliper kit for the KLR, but then they were bought out by Motion Pro. Never heard what happened to the plan after that. Gino

What is the difference between a solid rotor and a floating rotor? -- Marc Illsley Clarke, KLR650 A12, Loveland, Colorado USA

The solid rotor us just like your OEM rotor. The hub is made from the same piece of steel that the rotor is. It's all one piece. The floating rotors have the hub made from a different piece and is attached to the rotor with some special bushings that allow the rotor to move just a bit to center itself between the brake pads for better braking. Some of the hubs in a floating rotor can be aluminum or carbon fiber as well as steel. Floating rotors are really lots better than solid rotors. Fred www.arrowheadmotorsports.com

Stephane Peterhansel has won Dakar six times (all six on Yamaha) plus tons of other titles. Do a search for Yamaha XTZ for more info on the bike. Some interesting link to get you started: http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/buzz/mc/paris-dakar/ http://www.motorsportsetc.com/champs/dakar.htm http://www.interlog.com/~lcl/tdm/tdmdakkar.htm John --- jlabate@... wrote:
