ugly shifting noises

Post by Nicholas_Nownes@yavapai.cc.az.us » Tue Oct 30, 2001 12:46 pm

I'm right at 10,000k on my '01 KLR650 A15, mostly stop-and-go commuting miles but also some pretty rugged weekend riding. For the last three thousand miles or so, there's been a lot of gear grinding when I shift from first to second, whether the engine is warm or cold. I'm always able to get it into gear without much problem, and it's never popped out of gear. Aside from the shift from first to second, the transmission is entirely smooth. I've experimented with oils and adjusted and readjusted the clutch cable. The problem's still there. I'm wondering, does this sound like a clutch problem or a shifting fork problem? Secondly, I'm wondering if this is even something that I should be worried about, or if I should get the bike to the dealer before the warranty expires?
