kick starting klr mpg

Hi gang, With all this talk of kick starting a KLR, I thought I would upload a mpeg of myself starting my KL600 [which I sold a few weeks ago]. http://members.citynet.net/jemmy/KLRkickstart.MPG I had it 3 years, and went through 2 pairs of boots, and a bruised foot, before getting the method down........After that it always started 1st or 2nd kick....... shifter breaking off

Has anybody had this problem before of the shifter breaking off over time due to the pressure of your left foot kicking down on the shifter? If so is there a way to adjust your riding angle to stop this from bending and/or breaking off? Joey KLR 650 (2001)
