looking for help(?)

I was just curious to see if there were any unique ideas out there on storing items on your KLR650. By this I mean other than tank bags, saddle bags, etc. I guess the reason I bring this up is that I use the underside of my rear fender to store 2 small sealed kits. One is a first aid kit and the other is a snakebite kit. I strip tie them to the frame for the luggage rack. They have survived under there intact through mud, gravel, and motocross style jumps. I get a lot of comments because I have small graphics indicating the storage of these kits placed on either side of the bike under the rear rack. This way these necessities are always with me. I have had need for both kits on numerous occasions too. Anyone out there do anything weird like this? Just wondering. Jim Davis Va Beach, Va

like this? Just wondering. Yes, most seem to. Myself, I keep my registration in a plastic bag underneath the cannister cover on the left of the rear fender. This has the added advantage of giving you a whole task when a cop asks you to produce it. You just tell him, No Problem, Officer, I have it all, in perfect order, but to get to it I must first unpack the gear on top, then get the tool kit out to get the wrench I need to take this piece off, here, you see......usually by then they have something else they need to be doing and they are getting bored with my rambling, and there we go again! No Ticket! I usually hear, "Sir, you have a good day, and take it easy!". Bill no ticket in 10 years

Sounds like a great idea! There is PVC tube storage that many of us use; I made a black ABC tube that mounts with hose clamps to my Moose bash plate, and am just starting to make the battery side frame tube shown on the list files page. The front, "Moose tube" is used for (don't laugh guys, you never know) a flare, lengths of gas hose, lengths of wire, one of those long neck lighters and other miscellaneous stuff. I haven't figured out what to do with the side frame mounted tube yet, but it can't hurt to have it there until I do. Mark St.Hilaire, Sr msaint@... Random ideas for unusual storage: * front fenderbag * Cycoactive Glovebox * Krokko is working on a doodad that will allow for a small sealed box to be mounted on a de-Californicated KLR where the emissions canister used to be. * a pouch inside the fairing. * double tool-tubes, one on the highway pegs and one on the Moose bash-plate (going to brainstorm a little on this one - not sure if it'll work). * Two small sealed containers mounted *inside* the bash-plate. Well, I zip-tie two small tire irons to the front down-tube, along the inside of the skid-plate. I just drilled holes in the tire irons and ran the ties through them so nothing walks away. I also have one of those tiny bicycle pumps attached to the handlebar cross bar. With this, I just zip-tied the mounting bracket to the bar. It's not the greatest pump in the world but it sure beats trying to inflate a tire with your lips. Both have been there for years, so unobtrusive that I don't even notice them. I've used the pump but have not, as yet, needed to patch a tire on the trail - not on the KLR anyway (knock on wood). The last flat was just a slow leak, I managed to make it home by pumping it up a few times along the way. Other than that, I just travel light David... A4 Victoria BC Canada

Removing the fuel vapor recovery system and kickstand lockout switch from my CA-spec A-12 has yielded two useful storage places -- they were formerly occupied by the canister (left side, below and behind the seat) and liquid/vapor separator plus lockout switch (left side, just behind the engine). The bracketry from these discarded items was used to mount some plastic Radio Shack project boxes to hold spare parts (bulbs, wrapped in foam in the larger rear box, and fasteners in the smaller front box). I am looking for some assistance for this gentleman. I have no profit connection to his endevors but will be a customer in the future. Adam is the gentleman that was putting together a dualsport tour of the Silk Road from southern China to Afganistan. Current events being what they are, I have put this falls plans on hold. What I would like from someone in the group is to hook Adam up, if possible, with a source to buy some KLR's.
