Hi All, I have a slooow leak on the front of the KLR, it's been that
way for over a year, maybe needs 5 to 8 pounds a week, no big deal.I
am now wondering if the slow leak might act as a safety valve and
help prevent a "sudden" catastrophic blow-out or might it encourage
one? Lots of life left on my front Bridgestone TW41 but my rear TW42
will have to be replaced soon.Coincidentally, my buddy's DRZ400 came
stock with this tyre combo.......cosmo

I don't see *any* safety advantage in having a slow leak. If slow
leaks had been proven to prevent blowouts then somebody would be
selling 'slow leak' tubes and tires.
If you follow the list long enough somebody will probably suggest
that switching to Mobile 1 oil and filling 4oz above the KLR sight
glass will prevent blowouts provided you have a front fork brace and
a properly oiled chain. Gino would suggest that these safe gaurds
would be null and void if you also mounted a GPS to the bike.
Often a slow leak is caused by a leaky valve stem. Put some soapy
water (spit also works, but not as well) around the valve stem cap,
stem, etc. and look for bubbles.
If it were me, I would add 8 oz of "Slime" to the tire. That will
fix the leak if it is not in the valve stem.

Cosmo Unless it's a bad valve core, Fit a new tube pronto, front tire blow outs are not one of those life experiences you'll muse upon later. I forgot to mention that it also comes with both service manuals.
This bike is in great shape. 7000 miles. You're not likely to find
one that has been checked and maintained as frequently as this. Oil
and filter every 2000 miles. Valves checked and adjusted to optimum
twice. Entire rear suspension and wheel bearings cleaned and greased.
Comes with the Moose bash plate and an extra 14t front sprocket. 15t
currently installed. It also has a customized wind screen that
produces perfectly(almost) laminar air flow around the helmet for the
quietest and least turbulent ride possible on a KLR. It is a
slightly modified version of the Katana windshield mod that somebody
on the list came up with some time back.
It currently has fairly new OEM tires on it that I ordered from
DualStar. Front is like new. Back is about 70%.
I have a Maxxis C6006 (about 50% tread) I'll throw in.
The seat has been modified. I removed a couple inches of foam to
decrease the seat height a little. It helps a lot off road but you
could use this for price negotiation if you want.
I have several pictures I can email to interested individuals.
Don't be afraid to make an offer. One way or the other, the bike is
gonna' go.
