electricals

Post by R Goedendorp » Fri Sep 21, 2001 3:17 pm

Does anyone know about KLR electricals? I want to add a few accessories and want to see what kind of load the stock system will take. Things I'm thinking about adding: A louder horn (suggestions?), GPS, additional lighting, etc. If there are web links or resources, I'd like to hear about them from other riders. -World Citizen Ron _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

Ron: The Professor (Jim Hyman) is the resident KLR electrical system expert on this list. Check out his excellent color electrical system diagram and suggested electrical upgrades in the files section on the YahooGroups page. Search the archives for more information at: http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 MotorMark has a page on adding a 12V outlet for the GPS and a horn mod page at: http://www.angelfire.com/mo/motormark/klrmods.html I hope this gets you started, John

Dr. Krok has put together a great fuse relocation kit that should be the first step of an electrical upgrade. I'm planning on installing one over the winter. Once that's done, I'm going to install a high wattage headlight (80/100) that I got from Fred. I'll be pairing that with a bakalite headlight socket from NAPA. Someone suggested that I run a wire straight from the battery to a relay for the new bulb, and control the relay using the headlight switch. If it doesn't get too complicated, I may try that out. I do have one additional question... Can you use a Battery Tender pigtail to hook up an Aerostich electric vest? Thanks, Ralph jackburns40@... http://www.wvu.edu/~journal2/west

For those in the SF Bay area--Tomorrow (Sat) at the Barnes and Noble in Fremont moto-journalists Clement Salvadori and Allen Girdler will be doing a book signing from 3-5 pm. Clement will have his Baja Guidebooks and his new California book (both from Whitehorse Press). I don't know Girdler but Clement is a most entertaining guy, stop by and say hello if you're in the area. And no matter what he says that is NOT ME in the photo with the upside down BMW. I am much younger and slimmer than the man pictured. Regards, Kurt Grife
