north georgia ride

Post by whalenwp@hotmail.com » Tue Aug 28, 2001 9:06 pm

Spent 5 days riding North Georgia this summer with Swampy. We road the Hoch out of Suches and had a blast. Road the area around Suches for Fri-Sun, then drove up to South Tenn. (about an 1 1/2 away as you know). During the Hoch we road with alot of 400 and 250 and was able to hold our own. My biggest problem was not the bike but the tires. Monday we road the bikes up to South Tenn. and had a blast it was just the two of us on KLR-650's. It is a whole story on its own. Then on Tue we had the honor to ride the twisties with the legendary Frank Cheeks the owner of TWO. There was five of us. Two KLR's and 3 Crotch Rockets. We held our own there except in the straight aways. That evening another KLR joined us on our ride to dinner. Sure was pretty watching those KLR's hit those curves in the twisties. Was some of the best riding that I have ever done. Bill "SandShark"

Lew, Have no fear about south-of-the-border traveling. Once you get thru the circus that any border offers up, you'll find that the farther you get in to any of the countries you're visiting, the friendlier the folks. Just hit the border(and this goes for any of them)early in the day when you're rested and patient, and consider the process an education. Sometimes better to let one of the "tramites" help you with the process for a buck or two. Just don't let them rush you and have them explain what they're doing if you question it. I found that generally, the smaller(less busy/congested)the crossing town, the easier. Also be advised that some borders(at least Honduras)close at, I think, 5pm. Another reason for attacking them early on in the day. Vaya con Dios y vaya bien---PHW ps--About Punky, and you've probably already taken care of this, but I think you'll need a vet's assurance that he's been rabies proofed.
