Rick and list,
In my neck of the woods (Missouri) hot rodding a John Deere is a common
practice when the tractor is used in antique tractor pulls. We've found that
you just can't win without a souped up motor. 1/2 to 1 inch strokers are
popular.

I have seen supercharged B&S engines used in pulls as well.

Just goes to show you that if you put a motor in it, someone will race it. The local specialty lumber yard has belt sander races on Saturdays. speedo/front wheel damage
Had a similar situation on my A-10. The speedo drive had seized and
tore out the driving slots on the front wheel.
I purchased a replacement drive, took it, the front wheel (including
the bits of broken hub, so the original structure could be construed) to
a company that specializes in rebuilding mag. wheels (Alberta Wheel,
here in Calagary)(really nice people) They were able to build up the hub
then cut in the necesary slots to fit the speedo drive. Cost..about
$80.00 cdn. Certainly a lot cheaper than a new wheel and a little more
elegant than a bicycle speedo.
I would imagine any large city in the US would have such specialty
wheel rebuild shops. Worth checking out for interest sake alone...it's
incredible what they can do for damaged wheels..and it is all done to
the highest quality standards.
cheers
Martin
