bump starting a klr

Listers: A couple of days ago, I installed a new Progressive L/R rear shock, and Progressive front springs along with 15-wt Bel-Ray oil in my '99 KLR. Yesterday a.m. I did a loop (60 mi.) of a course I rode two weeks ago on my Husky 360 that we rode during our local I.S.D.E. rider's reunion, so it was gnarly to say the least. I was blown away by the performance of the 650 with these simple (expensive) mods! Except for a couple of traction issues (mostly on the downhills), because I run Kenda D.O.T. tires, and the unavoidable weight of a street legal machine, I could not believe the speed and ease with which I covered these trails. In fact, if anyone had told me there would be such an improvement, I probably would not have done the mods because I would have assumed the were smoking Draino! Street comfort has not been affected at all, either, @ 90 mph (indicated) the bike is as smooth as glass! So, if any of you are considering these mods, but are stalling over the price, or are wondering if they are really worth it - it's a must-do for this bike. This weekend, my Baja-racing buddy and I are doing a two-day in the coastal mountains of central B.C. He rides a much-modified KTM 620 - I'm planning on cleaning his clock with my KLR! okay, I'm sold but... Where did you source these? Any possiblity of a Canadian distributor? How much? I'm still wincing at a 14T front sprocket I just received from Sprocket Specialists - $12.99 for the sprocket, $17 shipping! - converting to cdn makes it about $50 bucks or so. It's still only a little over 1/2 what I paid for the Kawasaki direct 15T I bought a while back but... ouch! Any chance Fred can move to Canada? -- the ridings great David... A4, Victoria BC Canada.

I'm still looking for a good Canadian distributor. If somebody find one, I want to know who and where they are. I think the LR reak shock could be the best improvement on my bike, but at 720$+tx Cdn (828$ Cdn), I will wait to find a better deal. Stephane Fontaine A15

Did you call moto international ? I don't remember it being that expensive ?

I bump started mine a few times for one reason or another which I won't go into except that I can relate to the "stupid parking lights"... anyway I pushed mine by myself down the driveway, which is only slightly sloped and after a couple of tries was successful. It makes a huge difference if the bike is warm or cold. Warm is easy and can be done in one run, even using first gear. Cold is another story, second or even third is called for, and it will try to start once or twice and then finally will get going enough to remain running. It's a chore, but it get's the bike going and as long as your battery is good, your battery will charge fairly easily. Paul Frisco, TX [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
