airbox pre-filter

Post by InWoods13@aol.com » Wed Aug 15, 2001 4:23 pm

No doubt that this old trick is old news to many of you guys. But....I recently talked with a guy that's been riding dirt for some years, & it was news to him. I don't recall seeing this addressed on the list, so at risk of preaching to choir.... A thin coat of motor oil (dino or synthetic) applied to the inside of your airbox will help to trap alot of sand/dust that would normally reach your air filter. It's alittle bit more of a hassle having to clean up/re-oil the airbox, every time you clean your filter...but it makes for a cheap pre-filter that works. Scott A14 "thunderdog" Sorrento, Fl

Vern- Thanks for your very useful post. Starting with your idea I adapted some bar weights from the local bike wrecking yard and also put on a set of BMW road bike grips. Made a significant difference, the vibration is nearly gone now. Dan Weber STOC327 Shreveport,LA '98ST1100A '99KLR650
