I like "Syn-Lube SLWW" because it is water washable, but you probably
can't get it outside of Australia, and I'm not sure if it is still
available here.

Never seen it, I but haven't looked very hard either.

Depends on what it says on the filter fluid label.

Such solvents _may_ reduce the life of the foam element, but
they are fairly cheap to replace anyway.

They have allegedly better filtration and less flow resistance.
And they are washable and reusable.
I can't vouch for any claim, but I did buy a K&N for my Honda RC17
so I wouldn't have to keep forking out A$45 for the factory paper
filters (which have gone down in price, they used to be about A$60).
