2000 klr with red corbin seat - revised: more alternatives

Post by Bill Pratt » Fri Jun 01, 2001 1:50 pm

I have to throw in my two cents... Have you ever considered the Russell Day Long saddle for the KLR? This is perhaps the best saddle for any distance type riding on the KLR. I have logged thousands of miles on the Russell and would never consider a stock or Corbin saddle. I have ridden on stock and Corbin's and found them a total pain in the "ass". There is also a company in Northern California (Mayer) that has a saddle design similar to the Russell. Here are some helpful links: http://www.day-long.com/ http://mayercycle.homestead.com/MAYERCYCLE.html I do not have any connection with these companies...but I do own (or have owned) the following seats: Stock KLR Stock ST1100 (now a Russell) Corbin for a ST1100 Russell for a ST1100 Russell for a KLR I only ride on the Russell's...the others are on a shelf in my garage collecting dust. Another plug for Russell. I've had them on all my other bikes. Positively the most comfortable saddle out there. And the people you work with are first class. However, I can't imagine using the Russell off road. The concept is to have a comfort pocket. That would prohibit you from moving around off road. While I haven't taken any long trips on the Corbin, I can say that it is much better than the stock saddle. Leon Droby Uxbridge, MA Gherkin - A14

Good point...the comment for off road KLR riding certainly brings much debate. However, after my 3000 mile KLR ride through Asia (of which about 40% was dirt) I would still recommend the Russell. You can stand on the foot pegs and maneuver quite well with the Russell. One of the "Seven Dragons" on the Asia trip has a Corbin and he now wants to order the Russell. If I was to trailer the KLR to Moab, I would maybe consider the stock saddle. But, now that I have a years experience with the Russell, at the end of a days riding, even on dirt roads, the Russell would still be my saddle of choice. Again...just my .02 cents.
