klr600 / klr650 forks

Post by Gord Hunt » Fri May 18, 2001 12:44 am

As I said earlier in the week I crashed my KLR600. It looks like the forks are bent. Just wondering if a set of forks off of a KLR650 will fit? A bike wrecker near me has a set so they would be ideal. Thanks in advance, Gord Hunt _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Gord, I think so. Of course best is to take measurements or the old forks in....... Another possible alternative I heard of once, but don't have first hand experience with......is the idea of disassembling the forks and taking the inner tube to a metal shop with a roller....supposedly one can re roll the tube and straighten it(assuming of course that's whats bent). G luck... Slide Gord Hunt wrote:

Gord, Would you happen to know if your bike wrecker contact has a complete set of gauges? I know a guy trying to rebuild a KLR 650 who's looking for a set. Any help appreciated, Steve A11

Wow, once upon a time, removing Japanese Phillips head screws with a chisel was an essential skill for anyone working on a Japanese bike. I like the dremel idea though. Greg, you don't try to chisel the head off....you chisel near the edge, at an angle, so that you are chiseling the head counterclockwise to loosen it. Try the dremel thing first, perhaps with an impact screwdriver, after a bit of Liquid Wrench. FFDennis "If the only tool in your toolbox is a hammer, pretty soon all your problems look like nails"
