nklr parking permit sticker on windshield

Post by Mark Wilson » Mon May 14, 2001 12:23 pm

Hi everybody, I need to stick a parking permit sticker on the inside of my windshield. I'm worried that when I try to get this sticker off next year, that I'll scratch the windshield up trying to get it off. Has anybody sucessfully removed a sticker from thier windshield, without scratching it? If so, how? MotorMark

Hair drier on high setting loosens most sticker sticky, peel sticker up with fingernail, window cleaner will gum up the glue residue on some then roll the residue off. "Swede"

nklr parking permit sticker on windshield

Being in the custom car biz most if not all our graphics are vinyl, at the end of a show season some of the vehicles have to be stripped of all the graphics. If you have a body shop supply company near you go in and ask them for the "wheel" to remove graphics. it fits into a drill and looks a lot like an eraser from a #2 Ticonderoga, this wheel when spinning removes the vinyl without burning the paint. I would caution you to be very careful as plastic will heat substantially faster them metal will and you may only be able to do a small area at a time. Yes, pretty easy. I followed Bierdo's advice and threw the windshield in a box. No sticker, no scratches... ;-) More seriously, some of those parking stickers can be nasty even to a glass windshield. I use a combination of a razor knife (double edged, the old fashioned kind), a source of heat (hair dryers work great for this, be nice to your SO and she will let you borrow it if you don't have one of your own... ;-), and some mild solvent to clean the last stubborn adhesive remains. Most of the time it works perfectly. After that one time it doesn't, you wont care about scratching the windshield next year... So use this advice at your own risk. No guarantee explicit or implied.
