dumbest squid move yet -nklr - squid???

Post by Bryan Reese » Sun May 13, 2001 11:30 pm

After being on the list for 2 months, I kinda understand what a 'squid' is, but I've gotta ask for more clarification. Where does this term come from? Can anyone give a clear definition? -Bryan --- guymanbro@... wrote:

If you go to deja.com (which is google now) and search the rec.motorcycles newsgroup you'll find plenty of stuff to sift through. Here's some definitions pulled from "reeky" posts: ---------- Its a real term, bub. According to "Idiots guide to Motorcycles" a Squid is defined as: "Someone who rides a sportbike on the street as if he or she were on a racetrack." ----------- It's faster than saying Stupid QUick and Imminently Dead all the time. ----------- Back in '83 when I started riding the canyons of So. Cal, it stood for SQUished kID. I didn't start reading the newsgroup until recently. ----------- I've included a list of definitions for a squid. Choose the one that you think is appropriated. The second definition gets my vote. Squid = Inexperienced newcomer, someone trying to ride beyond his skill level with arms flailing (like a squid) to try not to fall. This may be just a Southern term, submitted by Cha Squid (#2)= Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Imminently Dead Squid (#3) = Any Sport Bike Rider - seems this term got twisted along the way and has many meanings. Squid (#4) = sport bike riders who wear tennis shoes or flip flops, shorts, T-shirts, etc. on their nice shiny new sport bikes. Squid (#5) = Comes from 2 words-squirrely & kid defined as:---anyone that rides without all proper gear , rides recklessly, or rides beyond their limits. ----------- An I thought it meant Stupid QUick and Imminent Donor ----------- SQUished IDiot. ----------- I'm not sure this counts as "clarification", but it's kinda entertaining. The image that squid always brings to my mind is: 150+hp sport bike, flip flops, shorts, tank top, no gloves, and a $600 full face helemet with replica racer graphics. Although as you can see the term has a broader application. - Brian

My use and understanding of the term "squid" applies to any motorcycle rider whom makes unpredictable changes in their direction and speed. Similar to the real 10 armed cephalopod. Has nothing to do with the bike you ride or the clothes you wear, only the way you ride (or go thru life for that matter). Steve G.

I don't need no stinkin' KLR. I got one. Buy me hemorrhoid surgery and a new seat for my DR650. -- bierdo Kurt Simpson wrote:
