transmission output shaft play

I noticed a metalic scraping sound coming from the right hand side of my KLR this afternoon. It seems to begin at speeds above 10 mph and stops again when I slow down for a light. I thought it might be brakes but the sound doesn't go away when I brake at speeds above about 10 mph. Maybe clutch plates? The bike has about 10.7k miles on it. Any help would be appreciated.
