high pitch tone coming from under gas tank

Post by lgramse@yahoo.com » Sat Apr 14, 2001 4:55 pm

I have 50 miles on my 2001 KLR 650. It is Saturday and the dealer I purchased it from is not open until Monday. I have a concern about a high pitch tone coming from under the gas tank (I cannot pinpoint the part that is causing it) - has anyone heard of or had this happen? Is it normal? The bike is running great now - I have heard that the first 500 miles the motor may not run so smooth due to the break-in period. Is there anything I can/should expect? Thanks!

Are you sure your not hearing the vent on the gas cap? Mine will hiss when the weather is hotter. Dave

Yeah, I've heard that on mine. Open the gas cap and see if the whine doesn't stop. Dave A14 Richmond

I would be concerned. You could try needle nose pliers and a pair of dykes. Of course if the dykes look good and like each other you may not get around to removing the screen. :)
