I have just purchased a '01 KLR 650 and now trying to figure out the best helmet situation. Full face, open face, 1/2 shell, shorty or MX? Anyone out there have decent used helmets you want sold? Even some short money helmets to get me going would be excellent. Need a Medium and a XL. Thanks. Also, a guy was telling me earlier today that it is very stupid and unsafe to ride this KLR 650 because he owned a Yamaha back in 1971 and fell off it repeatedly in his driveway before getting rid of it. I think the quality of advice can only get better from here!

I have discovered that if you keep your eyes open at flea markets and garage sales you can get top notch used helmets for anywhere from $20 up. Most people selling used helmets are not users and have no idea what they're worth Please don't tell them! -- bierdo '01 KLR650 '99 DR650 '82 XL250R '78 TC90 '91 Yammy 4 stroke golf cart 2 bad dogs and a sled Mfr. of 4x4 POLY Motorcycle Parts bierdo@... http://www.dirtly.com 2970 Robins Nest Ct. I have seen first hand what happens to a human head that is not protected by a FULL face helmet. Get one, if you don't prefer eating through a straw. campo650klr@... wrote:

The majority (largest %) of impacts to the head on a motorcycle is the chin/jaw area. Need anyone say more.

That's why I always recommend wearing your helmet backwards if it's not full face! -- bierdo thesquasher@... wrote:

Consider getting a Shoei RF800 while they are available. Most places are selling them for $199 as a closeout price. Cascade BMW in Kirkland, WA has some left. Nothing less will do...they are quiet, comfortable and safe. I do not work for any of the above companies...I am on my 4th Shoei and have had two RF800s. Lets face it...they work for street and off road KLR type riding. Also consider getting the Shoei blue iridium tinted shield. They are expensive but provide excellent protection from the sun and you don't need sunglasses. DO NOT GET A SMOKE CHEAPY VISOR...THEY WILL PUT YOU TO SLEEP. Confirming two posts about the RF800s and visors...yes, do not smoke the visor. All kidding aside, the really dark "smoke" tinted visors are just too dark. They make you feel like you are in a dark room which can cause you to become sleepy. Do not believe me? Enjoy a nice lunch, climb back on your cycle, cruise down the highway at 60 MPH for about 30 minutes on a nice warm day...you will get very sleepy with the dark tinted $19 visor. The Shoei iridium (sp) is a more translucent material that gives you crisp clear vision allowing a lot of light to your eyes...with none of the damaging light reaching your skin. They cost between $50 - $70, but are well worth the investment. You must remove them before the sun goes down. Carry a very soft cotton sock to store the visors. I store mine in the top area of a saddle bag or tank bag. Just my 2 cents. Is it eyestrain caused by trying to focus through bad optics makes you tired (especially eye muscles)? Or is there some other effect? Interested. The elbow thingy on my Tengai has been broken for the past three years and for 2 years on my '88. No biggie. When was the last time you cleaned your air filter? Mark B2 A2 A3
