touring 38t rear sprocket

Post by valter9mm@aol.com » Fri Mar 16, 2001 12:52 am

Fellow Riders, Im looking to buy 38t rear sprocket for touring on my 2001 klr650.I went on Maw web site and under Renthal brand found they stock a lot of 38t sprocket under different classification (520,525,530) numbers.I wrote them an e-mail asking which one would be suitable for my motorcycle , they replied that none of them for sure????? (or only up to 1998 model).I know that some of you have 38t rear sprocket on your bikes so could you tell me a brand name ,part# ,where to get it or any info on that.. TIA, Dejan

installing ht radiator guards questions (thesequel, now long

Post by Mike Reaves » Fri Mar 16, 2001 10:42 am

I put these on last weekend. It did look like a headache was starting when I first put the shroud up but after putting in the top screw I made sure the bracket from the shroud was behind the guard then I pushed and pushed (and almost blew my bike down) but finally got the front bolts in. It deforms the plastic shroud a bit but not enough to cause harm (from what I could tell).

Don, sorry it took me so long to respond, I'm way behind on email. I recieved the right and left bracket and 4 bolts. The left side (rad) went on real easy, just put the racks on top of the rubber washer "stacks" and use the replacement bolts. I put a small washer under the bolt head. I don't think the guards will fit behind this "stack." You can flex it slightly because of the rubber mounts. It's the resevoir side (right) that was trickier. I tried many, many configurations with and without washers being used as shims, but could not get the shroud to fit back on using the two screws that attach to the resevoir bracket. The top attachment on this side already has two brackets under the bolt, I sandwiched the guard between them and put the ground attachment on top under the bolt head, the bottom one I put right on top of the resevoir bracket. The shrouds top screw and rubber mount point fit ok, but the two screw attachments inside to attach to the resevoir had to be ziptied (which I have heard will result in less damage if you lay it down). The rack itself gets in the way of the two short pieces of metal and their screws. I ziptied the plastic tabs directly to the guard. Has anyone else been able to attach the right resevoir shroud with all its original hardware after guard installation? (Without tweaking). It would appear if the guard curved a little more forward (toward front of bike) it would allow this, but, I think the top of the guard would encounter the top of the inside of the shroud, mine just barely touches the plastic. I don't know if this was the design or unique to my pair, there were no instructions included. The gap between tank and shroud on right has slightly increased. Over all, they appear protective and also provide attachment points for tank panniers. The quality and finish is very nice. I am thinking of putting a finer mesh screen over my radiator guard side to keep bugs out of my radiator when in Alaska, has anybody tried this?, I suppose I shouldn't use too fine of a mesh to avoid insufficient airflow. Hope it helps Don, feel free to contact me for further detail. I think? I received some other stuff from them plus the guards and I have no idea which is what. I did get some hammered gray brackets, I assume these are them. How did your installation work? I was hoping for some instructions from HT. I picture or two would have been nice. Any help you could lend would be greatly appreciated. tia, d ---------- Utah Charles.Earl@... wrote:
