I thought not many new bikes were introduced. I did see the Suzuki 400Z dual sport that I hadn't seen previously. It looked interesting but there was nobody to ask questions about it. Marsee has what appeared to be a quilted vest with some type of exposed gortex inner membrane. You soak the vest in ice water and it is supposed to keep you cool for 3 hours -- about $99. They also have very nice Darien-type jackets but unfortunately they aren't vented and the only color is black. Another vendor was displaying other jackets from Italy that I thought were very functional but I planned to revisit and I didn't. The show was very crowded. Then took a test ride on a Buel M2. Very fun to ride with lots and lots of torque. This was the fastest I've ever ridden on a test ride. One rider ahead of me with his young son crashed. Clearly inexperienced, cutting double yellow lines, he had to change his line as an on comming car approached. He ended up in the gutter which was muddy and flipped over. Nothing serious just felt sorry for his little boy who was badly shaken. -svt-

Unfortunately, the LC8 was not shown. KTM had all their "old" stuff - adventure tourer, Duke and its derivatives. As mentioned in my original mail, not much new motorcycling hardware this year. The only thing I had not seen previously was the Toyota 4 door mini pickup along the same lines as the Nissan 4 dr. A big yawn for that one. -svt-

want one of those adventure r's? here's a deal

Folks: I want to offer independent confirmation of Gino's take on the KTM Adventure. In the December issue of Cycleworld there is an update on the mag's long-term test on the above. The headline was "Super Shaker" and the conclusion: engine vibration is "wrecking everything attached to our Adventure. Headlight bulbs, license-plate brackets, gps system mounts, flat-tire repair kits -- all have either broken or come adrift while the bike was in motion." The mag's ME described his on-freeway experience as "absolutely miserable." Said a former desert racer: "After two days I actually got a headache from all the vibration." B-b-b-b-b-boy! I'm s-s-s-sure gl-gl-gl-glad I d-d-d-d-didn't get one of them. (No wonder they scowled when I asked for a test drive.) Gary Webb Sacramento, CA 98 KLR 650 (RIP) 00 Pegaso 650
