I, would recommend the KLR over the BMW. For several reasons. First, the Beemer does not appear to dirt as well as the KLR. I'm not trying to be insulting to anyone, it just appeared that way at any of the DS rides I attended with BMW's present. Second, you can buy several used, and possibly two left over KLR's for the price of that BMW. But, it all depends on your riding style and what you want from the bike. If the street is what you want, perhaps the BMW would be best for you. Personally, I will never be without a KLR again. I've owned three and I'm always happy. Hope this helps. done deal - got my '01 klr yesterday
Listers - thanks to those that replied to my message
requesting input re: KLR650.
I picked up my '01 KLR Saturday afternoon.
Got a great deal - $4,795 out the door. No kiddin'.
This is the first 2-up mount I've had in 7 years.
Took my 12-yr old daughter for her first ride. Her
apprehension quickly turned to glee. We rode for
about an hour, and she didn't want to quit. Now I've
got to get my soon-to-be 16 yr old son to learn to
pilot the thing.
Havin' a blast. Won't replace my Ducati, but it'll go
places I WON'T take the Duc. Great pair in the
stable.
Now, on to searching for add-on bits. Any advice on
must-haves?
