Hi OJ: I see you are in New Orleans. Can you recommend a campground near New Orleans for Mardi Gras? I will be accompanied by my Yorkie. I think advance reservations would be in order. Enjoy your new scoot. I will be getting mine soon to use for my planned motopaseo next year. For now I'm enjoying the research and preparations. The dsn_klr650 website has a ton of good advice by some very knowledgeable KLR owners. Thanks. Lew Waterman Punky & Lew's Americas Motopaseo Greenacres, Florida

Hi OJ: I think I have been a member of this list for a little more than a month. I never cease to be amazed by the camaraderie, invitations to accommodate and general willingness to be helpful in whatever way possible between members. This group is the greatest resource I could ever have found for my Americas Tour and information about the KLR650. I am profoundly gratified by your invitation to put me and Punky up at your place in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Any reader of this post should understand that I only asked OJ if he could recommend a campground near New Orleans for Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras idea is not written in stone yet but, especially with your kind offer, I will certainly try to be there and let you know when well in advance. I have never been to New Orleans or Mardi Gras and look forward to experiencing The Big Easy and one of the biggest annual celebrations in North America. I want to compare Mardi Gras to Rio's Carnival. I also am looking forward to experiencing the Cajun, Creole, jazz and Arcadian music/culture and lots of shrimp and crawfish. I have been to Mexico's biggest Carnival celebration in Mazatlan. I am very sorry to hear of Eric's passing. He was obviously well liked by the group. What happened to him strengthens my resolve to do my tour before it is too late. I really liked reading the thing that a couple of guys posted about today being a gift and that is why they call it the "present." Thanks again. Well, I still want to know of a good and secure site to put my klr while I stare at balcony boobs on bourbon street. If the plans work, my jeep buds are comin too, though we'll probably ride that one in to town once we dump the equipment at the camp/motel/whatever, since it is such a tore up old thing. So, OJ, you know of a good cheap motel to stay in near new orleans, a place that has some kinda garage, or at least lets people put their bikes in their rooms? Thanks, DXK PS: punky&lew: Sorry you got one version of this in your own box, I hate my send button sometimes. punkynsquirt@... wrote:

An important item, a friend recently had has new R6 picked up and removed while he was in having dinner. Nawlins is great for getting things ripped off.

Hi John: I hope we can all get together in N'Orleans for The Zeus Parade and Mardi Gras. The more the merrier. I hope I have my KLR by then, but that is not a certainty yet. If I have the bike by then it would be a great opportunity to do Mardi Gras and shake out the wrinkles in my preparations for the Americas Motopaseo. The departure date is set for May 1, 2001. For one thing I probably have too much stuff. My plans are pretty ambitious for someone who hasn't ridden a bike in more than 20 years. Hope to see y'all in N'Orleans. Since you posted on the site about this I will give my 2 cents. I used to live in Biloxi MS not far from New Orleans. I went there a couple of times. I would never go during Marti gras. If you have to go get a hotel don't take the KLR. If you just want to see boobs get a Playboy mag or an adult video it is much safer. I would rather spend a week in Grizzly Bear country with bears all around that one night on Bourbon Street during Marti Gras. MY 2 cents Kyle -----Original Message----- From: jirvine@... No I am not selling. Personally I don't believe in those things. However they are safer than Marti Gras. Kyle -----Original Message----- From: drainr@... Shame on you! How can you not like liquored up mobs, standing on the street chanting that all-american phrase that is with us throughout the ages: "SHOW THOSE BOOBS!"? Safety!? I made it to 18, thats safe enough so far, time to get out of the parents house, get on my own, and of course, get to a wild party a month before my 19th! No, I don't think I'm invincible, I'm just tired of suburbia, and I know in my heart and crotch that life is for living! And what better way to live than to stand with a crowd of drunken idiots, pickpockets, lax police, COPS cameramen, hookers, drug dealers, druggies, bums, disgruntled teachers/postmen, wrestling circus midgets, and murdering psychotics! Not to mention the occasional biker/pyromaniac/nymphomaniac, IE me. No, no, safety simply will not deter me in my quest for self- annihilation. It is a quest! I must find the perfect vodka, the perfect hangout, the perfect place to keep my KLR somewhere near town, and a place to sleep it all off, hopefully after having wild- kinky-monkey sex with several young women and 5 tons of Jell-O!! Thats it! I'VE GOT IT! A storage locker! A big, well-lit, U-Haul storage locker! I'll dump the gear and the bike there, and catch a ride into town. Anyone wanna share lockers? Gods, this shall be wonderfully decadent. Please don't think less of me for it though, it is something I must do. I hear the call in my left kidney..... DXK PS: no offense intended, I'm just bein nutty.

Damn, because you put it that way, all of the dysfunctional adrenalin junkies on the list will want to go. Anybody want to join me for the ride down from Denver? Chris Lawson

Kenlow: whazz up? You made your preference for bear country over Mardi Gras abundantly clear. Personally I'd like to experience both and intend to, thank you very much. Decadent partying and the wonders of the wilderness are both of interest to me. At 63 I'm not too sure how much longer I will enjoy such diversity, but I'm going to take advantage of the opportunities while they are still there and I am still ready, willing and able. Ride on.
