Done a few Saddlesores and a Bun Burner Gold (1500/24) but never
on something like the KLR. Go at it!
Joe, also a new mex LD rider had quite a list of good info but as with all
things there is room for serious disagreement. 1st of all the heavy
subject of underwear, Boxers??? No thanks, lets start a war on this
one! I have been trying bicycle shorts and overall think they're pretty
good. I have a 900 mile run coming up to and from Utah and will wear them
(I was planning on taking the XX not the KLR) (See Eds' previous post about
speed to figure out why)
Have a throttle lock or throttle rocker. On my XX I have a lock on the
right grip and a rocker on the left. The rocker just adds a little support
that prevents any wrist problems. Having the lock means you can rest that
arm, move around move, and have a very light touch on the throttle.
Personally I wouldn't want to go 5 miles without ear plugs, my old hearing
was already beaten to death by high volume rock and roll and wind and
distance would be very fatiguing.
For a saddlesore pick some nice terrain, if possible. A SS doesn't need to
be a rush. I did one with my daughter on back and we stopped for a few
meals, a visit to some tourism, and still had plenty of time (this run was
mostly on Interstate though). Do some exercises while on the bike, enjoy!
