As I understand the problem, the issue with cowboy boots (or most
other leather-soled boots for that matter) is that their smooth
leather soles do not have enough grip to hold to a somewhat slick
asphalt road surface when you put your foot down after stopping your
cycle at an intersection. My solution to the fashion versus grip
problem is a pair of the Justin cowboy styled work boots with their
oil-resistant (and grippy) rubber soles. Perhaps the same would work
for you?
