Hello all. I'm excited to find you. I'm a 30 year rider, just have a spot in my garage and thinking to get either a fairly new, or new, klr (or a bandit 1200 . . .). Quite a difference I know. I think of the klr as "cool" and the new, slicked-out bandit as a "jewel". Some help, if you will. I'm mainly a backroads type rider, semi sport, semi touring type, avoid the superslab whenever i can, but rarely would go into the dirt (unless it turns out to be too much fun). my last dirt bike was a 2 stroke 90cc around "67 or something. so for "cool", and street riding purposes on back roads:::: how's the wind issue on the klr at 65, 70, 75 mph? fairly smooth, or rough/buffeting? and same questions for the vibration level in grips, pegs and seat. I think the new bandit is going to be super, but I don't need the 100 h.p. or 100 mph either. I really like the idea of the klr, reliability, simplicity, neat factor, potential for dirt roads and fields occasionally, and luggage possibilities. it just looks so dang practical and fun. so how's the comfort on those issues for my kind of riding, which is usually 125 miles for a nice sunday morning run on lonely roads, some good curves, and occasionally a 1000 mile trip on similar roads, loaded with stuff, all highway speeds but not 80+, with interstate if i really really have to . . . and any good used ones in for sale in the southeast,? any reason for or against getting a 2001 model? did they ever improve the brakes, or are they really ok for this kind of riding, solo, i'm 140 lbs 5'9". the seat height is tallish, but seems quite manageable to me having sat one in the shop. thanks for any thoughts. larry k.

much better and worth the price. I agree 100%. You want good footing, although at 6'6" you'll have fewer problems that most on the KLR. The Sidi boots are good, but if you want something a bit less gregarious, try; http://www.aerostich.com/riderwearhouse.filereader?2046340432+EN/catalogs/10 18 Joe Nassif Santa Fe, NM http://www.users.uswest.net/~jnassif intro forthcoming...
