what causes it is a wet, multi-plate clutch, and the higher viscosity of oil
when cold. even though the plates aren't touching, the cold oil still
transmits enough torque to be noticeable. once the oil warms up and thins
out, problem goes away.

There is a little drag when the bike is cold. This is very similar to the
klunk into first gear issue when starting in the morning. I don't see it as
a problem. I would bet most of our bikes do this. I could be wrong. We'll
see.

I have a question. I tried to start my bike last night while it was in gear.
While doing this the bike kept moving forward like the clutch was slipping a
little. I tried adjusting my clutch lever to tighten it up and nothing
happened.
After I put the bike in neutral and started it up I let it run for a minute
and
then put it in gear and all was fine.
Does anyone know what might have caused this?
I have a Y2K Klr with 13075 miles or near there. and I change my oil
religiously.

I believe it is in the clutch producing engagement via oil drag. When the oil is cold it is thick and drags between the friction disks and pressure plates in the clutch basket. Does you bike do this when warm? Sometimes I can start my A13 from cold and kill it by popping it in gear (clutch dis-engaged of course)! I just start it again and go. == Rev. good cop/bad cop was dickhead
Listers,
I agree with Mark. Everyone who is a serious biker has his day in the
sun regarding the police.
Good cops/bad cops exist in the LEO community. We as average citizens
only hear a fraction of all the sh*t cops get away with. It's kind of
like politics. Your best move is to take the case to court and FIGHT!!
If the LEO was indeed a dickhead prove it. I've beat several tickets by
presenting a logical explanation to the judge. LEO's hate to be
embarrassed in court. Usually they don't even show up if you know some
lawyer tricks.
If indeed this LEO is a bad cop expose him. Call the newspaper make his
public life miserable. File suit,go class action if necessary. On the
other hand if you got caught "which serious riders do sometimes" be
willing to ante up and move on with your life without bitterness. It
happens to all of us. I once got a ticket on the way to the BMW national
rally for speeding. Cop told me quote unquote he hated nigg*ers on
BMW's. Proceeded to show me his harley tattoo and wrote me up for 91 in
a 55 zone. Big Bucks but I learned sometimes you got to move on. I was
the only vehicle to be pulled over in a 12 car/truck pack. Local LEO's
tend to be the most anal retentive but easier to beat in court. Most of
the good cops are willing to get rid of the bad apples. Do your homework
well before you go to court, you may end up surprised the way things
turn out.
A world famous BMW fellow rider "trial lawyer" coached me before my
day in court. If everyone appealed a case to court and used the court's
time, we soon would eliminate all the bullshit citations. Unfortunately
the bottom line is revenue for the court, insurance,DMV "points",lawyers
etc. When the other side starts to spend money things will change.
Hell,if the Geico insurance company can buy radar guns for the cops
"free" to increase your rates as a reckless speeder, take it for what
it's worth in the real world. To all you good cops out there "God Bless"
and do your best to weed out those LEO's you know are bad. To all you
bad cops out there "Eat Sh*t" as your day will come in the laws of
karma. We as the general public know the difference. You want respect as
a cop EARN it. Show respect to the public and you will get it back. Be a
power crazed assh*le and see what kind of respect you get (Psy.101)
Been there,done that,got a ticket,hired a lawyer,got off, went to
jail, suspended license, sold my sportbike, rode with the Blue Knights etc.
etc.
By the way psychologists claim the first 30 seconds of eye contact
determines your attitude
