[dsn_klr650] back from alaska - part 3

Post by Steven van Twuyver » Sun Aug 27, 2000 5:48 pm

I talked to one of the pit bosses at length to get a feel for the town and it's history. I assumed that it was all locals running the place. Most people there are migratory. The season closes the casino September 15th and most of its employees go elsewhere. The dance group is also contracted by the casino. The casino runs non-profit and returns all its earnings to Dawson City (my previous post referred incorrectly to Dalton City). The casino is very small, perhaps as big as a high school gymnasium and that includes a stage. For $6.00Cn you gain admission to the casino which includes the all shows. There is a show at 8:30, 10:30 and 12:30pm. It is more or less a vaudville burlesque show hosted by a rather portly woman - Diamond Tooth Gertie. She has five attractive underlings that perform and dance. The second show featured a talented banjo player. The shows are done as though it were early mining times. There is lots of audience participation, each show is entirely different, I saw only two of them. -svt- -----Original Message----- From: Kurt Simpson To: DSN_klr650@egroups.com DSN_klr650@egroups.com>; Steven van Twuyver Cc: Doug McCrae ; Elkhornss@...
