rear brake screech

Post by Bob Little » Tue Aug 22, 2000 7:06 am

My green breast has grown a rear brake screech under heavy braking, avoiding a cage jumping in my space. I cleaned and inspected the rotor. It looks good no warping or high spots. The green beast just came up on its 1st birthday. After cleaning, the noise stopped for a week, but it is back. She has 2000 miles and loving each day of riding. But the noise must go. Do I need new pads already? I only use the rear in panic situation and to hold position at a stop light. screwybear Bob 2k KLR "Green Hornet"

bear try rubbing a No. 2 pencil lead on the disk. You don't have to cover it completely, just a few lines, maybe make some squiggles. Do it every time it starts to squeak again. After a while it might go away forever.

Jeez, maybe you should see a doctor about your green breast ;) Just kidding... But back to your question. On cars if the pad or shoe is squared off (perpendicular) with the rotor/drum surface squealing can occur. This can be corrected by filing a small angle on the leading edge of the pad. That way the perpindicular condition cannot occur. It works on cars and should work on the KLR. Hope that helps. Brad A9

Well, if that's the case, it's only a short hop to the KLR Riders/Owners Klub, or KROK. And I won't even sue! Now, anybody want to assist me in getting those cheap bastards at radio station KROK in Louisiana to send me a bumper sticker or something? I'm thinking e-mail barrage.
