But this was only the beginning. Is it the fastest? No, but it's power can be improved. Is it the lightest? No. Is it the prettiest? Hell no. Will it get me everywhere I want to go and back? Hell yeah. I've had this bike only since January and already had it in places where people said, "What's that thing doing here?" That includes rocky steeps, off-camber single track, city streets, and highway gas stations. It all depends what you're looking for, and from the looks of your stable, the KLR should fit right in. But be careful, the other bikes might start to get jealous of all the attention the new overweight, underpowered kid gets. dat brooklyn bum Did it get stolen like the BMW in front of work last night? No. _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html

gps on klr - my selection is... streetpilot colormap
Hello:
I already had a Garmin StreetPilot Colormap and the Touratech
mount on my BMW R1100GS and just tried it on the KLR. Works
great. The StreetPilots are much bigger than the III+'s or the
EMAP but we live in a color world and I wanted a color GPS.
In the past I have owned a Garmin 40 and then a III (not the +).
I have the 16MB data cartridge and the Roads and Rec CD. I
loaded almost all of the counties in the state of Colorado into
the Garmin and go ride. Garmin is soon coming out with 32, 64, and
128 mb data cartridges for the Emap and StreetPilots.
The Touratech mount for either the III/III+ or StreetPilot is
great. An 8mm wrench to tighten up 4 small nuts and the mount is
onto the crossbar. The power cable gets wired directly to the
battery and up to the Touratech mount. No use in powering these
things with batteries as it's too expensive. In fact, remove the
batteries so they don't jingle around. The Streetpilots uses 6 AA
batteries and they don't last long. The III+ only uses 4 and lasts
a lot longer.
The GPS just snaps into the mount and then out if you need to
remove it. It will NOT come out while riding. I think one would
need to jump off a cliff with the KLR to get it to come out of
the mount.
The StreetPilot Colormap has a nice, big, color screen. In very
direct sunlight, while wearing sunglasses it can get a big washed
out. However, for 90% of the time it works just fine. There is also
a black and white version of the StreetPilot that is the same size
but has 25% higher screen resolution. A bit cheaper too.
I got my GPS, maps, and mount from Cycloactive:

I have mounts for our cars as well as the GPS gets a lot of use
in 4WD-ing here in Colorado.

I do have a digital camera so if there is some place you all place
pictures for the rest of us to see just let me know and I can send
a few pictures of how the mount and gps look on the klr.

they're all so much fun, it's hard to neglect any of them. y'know how a bike will sometimes whisper in your ear? my bikes shout loud enough to make me ears ring.>It all depends what you're looking for, and from the looks of your >stable, the KLR should fit right in. fugly has its virtues, kinda like that song with the line that goes something like "if you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, then marry yourself an ugly wife..." or summat.>dat brooklyn bum >Did it get stolen like the BMW in front of work last night? No.
