out of balance?

Post by tryce@reid-crowther.com » Thu Jul 27, 2000 10:46 am

Sorry to be an ignorant lad, but what the heck is tire cupping? What does it look like? There was a thread a while back that was discussing a 'standing wave' that was created by the rototation of the tire. I understood all that, but I don't know what to look for on a tire! Tim Ryce eh9 - 22000km. ps- If there's any BMW cage lovers out there: I touched the 2001 E46 M3 last night. A local car dealership had one of the 2 pre-production vehicles on hand for display. And right next to it, the hand-built Z8. Even if they did have 4 wheels, they were mighty pretty! Message: 20 Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 19:16:10 -0700 From: "billmonahan" Subject: Re: Out of balence? Is it cupped? I've ben experiencing the same thing from the front tire on my beemer, and it is from cupping, the tire has about 5000 miles on it.

Hey gang, I'll be up in Southeast Tennessee next week with the family on Vacation. I'm looking for someone to ride with. It'll be a weekday since My wekends up there are already booked. Planning on shooting up 68 to tellico, hop the Cherohala, and maybe even head to deal's gap then back all in one day. I'll have the Big Green KLR for this ride. I'll need a firm response from someone in the next few days, and even a phone number so I can contact ya. You can reply off list to me at wdsrc@... Thanks, Swampy

Tim, it looks like the circumference of the tire has gotten a little "bumpy" with raised portions of tread, their forward edges kind of lifting up. You've never experienced it? Every bike I've ever had has done it to one degree or the other. Usually the other. It's usually worse on the left side of the tire, due to the crown in the center of the road.
