Some time ago, one of the motorcycle magazines (Motorcycle Consumer
News, I think -or it might still have been Road Rider) did an
extensive study with sensors placed inside helmets under "Real life"
riding conditions. Their results were that there is no significant
difference between a black or a white helmet. I have never noticed
much difference.
Since that study,helmet ventilation systems have improved greatly,
which is what you probably should be considering.
As for visibility, white is about the most visible unless you go
dayglo.
