flat rear avon gripster

Post by John Shepherd » Mon Jul 03, 2000 3:33 pm

To all experienced Gripster owners out there, On the advice of the archives etc. I have a set of Gripsters on my A10, 6,500 mi on rear (all road) and 1,000 mi on front (I have loved them for road tires). I took them off road for the first time this last weekend and upon traversing a heavily (sharp) rock strewn jeep track I noticed about 1/2 mile up it I had flatened the rear tire!:( This is a track I have taken many times before on my Trials bike with MUCH softer compound tires than the Gripsters (also 200 pound lighter bike!) and never had any problem. Question: are the Gripsters unusually prone to flats off road (softer sidewalls etc.) or was I just unlucky? I need too know if they require special delicate treatment off road because I am planning a 140 mi. AMA dual sport ride (easy loop) with the wife in tow on her Super Sherpa this comming weekend and a flat on this ride would really suck! Apologies in advance if this is a duplicate post but I never saw my original response post to the list so I'll try again. I should have thought to mention this, sorry. There was no visual evidence of any object embedded in the tire. I'm assuming pinched tube. Thanks again.
