fan stayed on - flat battery

Well i've had fun and games today... It's been pretty hot here in Southern England today so i decided to visit some friends on my KLR, when i got to my destination the engine was very hot and the fan was running after i turned the engine off. When i returned to the bike some 5 hours later the fan was still running Needless to say i had a flat battery and had to ask my friend if i could jump start it using his car battery. It started perfectly but i'm not quite sure why the fan kept going for all of that time. The ride home was OK although it was a little cooler and so the fan didn't click in. Is there a common electrical problem with the cooling system or was i just unlucky ?. I have the day off work tomorrow and i'll investigate but any pointers would be most welcome. -- Andy - Southampton,UK '87 KLR650
