[dsn_klr650] nklr-j. rocket ballistic pants vs cortech

Post by Rev. Chuck » Sat Jun 17, 2000 8:14 pm

>Gino, or anyone else who uses the JR Ballistics, how are they in the heat? >Is the liner removable? > >I've narrowed the field to either the JR or the Cortech's but I'm concerned >about heat...Cortech's only come in black but have a removable liner (higher >quality too I'm sure but almost twice the price).
I just bought the JR Ballistics, pants and jacket. The pants are ok in the heat (90+) if you wear shorts under them. The jacket does come with a removable liner (vest only) and is ~ok above 90, when moving. When stopped look for shade. The vents work well but are useless under 20 mph. Over all I would buy them again, and can since I did'nt buy *real* expensive stuff. --- Rev. power loss follow up

Post by Bryan Loehr » Sat Jun 17, 2000 11:35 pm

Listers, A week or so ago I posted a request for advice regarding a sudden power loss on my 99 KLR. With about 800 miles on a Dynojet/Supertrapp/K&N upgrade, it all of a sudden wouldn't rev past 5K. I discovered the cause to be a small tear in the carb diaphragm. The wingnut that holds the K&N on had backed out, and the filter had fallen off and was loose in the airbox. I've modified the airbox with holes drilled along the top, therefore, a HUGE amount of air was slamming into the carb, especially with all the honking on I have to do to try to keep up with the guys I ride with. It's my theory that the high air volume overstressed the diaphragm. Does that sound right? The new diaphragm assembly I have on order cost $116. (Not a typo--one hundred sixteen dollars!) A pure case of "Sh*t happens." By the way, I wouldn't have thought to look for a hole in the diaphragm if it weren't for our good old archives. Bryan Loehr
