The rider was very good, but the bike just seemed to float along and was able to stick with some very fast dirt bikes with lights. Gino

Any good suggestions and a place I can pick one up on the road? 3) Vehicle insurance. Any place recommended? I know about Discover Baja but??? >> The Baja Atlas, north and south editions, are very good and available from Discover Baja. The current Auto Club map and especially the guidebook are also very good. Once again I will get a plug in for Salvadori's "Motorcycle Journeys in Baja" from Whitehorse press and also available at Discover Baja, and no matter what the author says that is not me in the photo of the upside down BMW in the water crossing. The insurance sold by Discover Baja does not cover motorcycles, they were unaware of this until I bought a policy last year and then read the fine print on the back. I have Mexican liability with prepaid legal through ADA-VIS in Temecula, Ca. So far I haven't found anyone who offers anything but liability for bikes in Baja, no collision, theft, etc. I'm in e-mail contact with my friends in Mulege and they tell me it is already hotter than usual there. Be sure to carry lots of water and don't go into the desert alone at this time of year. In January you might walk out but now it's riskier. I have no knowledge of health insurance for Mexico but every community has a clinic where care is very inexpensive. I got stitched up in Mulege last November by an excellent young doctor for around $20.00. The multi-talented Elden Carl removed the stitches for me at his camp site saving me a trip back to the clinic. Finally, I have ridden Baja in the summer heat and found that you must constantly be taking in water. Force yourself to keep hydrated at all times, I became seriously ill riding back from San Jose del Cabo in July 91 (rode down to see the total solar eclipse, but thats a whole 'nother story) because I didn't realize that I wasn't drinking enough. On that trip it was F120 on the road between Loreto and Mulege. If I can help further feel free to contact me directly. Regards Kurt Grife Avila Beach, Ca
