new to list (nklr)

So you guys are down poking around Holeshot as well, eh? I was down looking at KLRs that Holeshot had in stock back in March.  They had a '96 with low mileage for a good price (I think it was in the $3500 range), a '97 that was priced too high, and a Y2K model that was a rip-off compared to some of the other dealer around town.  I rode the '96, liked it, and couldn't find any major visual problems with it.  I would have bought it right there and then, but decided to do the 'walk away and think about it' trick to make sure it was the right one. On a suggestion from my dad, I called up Holeshot later that week to get the serial number of the bike to run it through ICBC to see if there were ever any insurance claims on the bike.  Lo and behold, it turns out the bike had been stolen in 1997, and needed $4000CAD of repairs!  That almost certainly indicates a damaged frame, or some MAJOR overhaul.  The bike was reported to have a 'salvaged' status.  When I confronted Holeshot about this (they legally have to tell me about it), they didn't know!  They had taken the bike as a trade-in without even doing a background check.  Needless to say, they screwed themselves, and couldn't lower the value of the bike to what it was worth because they had paid too much for it.   I highly doubt they told the next person who came along about that flaw in the bike's history, and they sure didn't like me after I told them.  I went to Pacific Yamaha/BMW and picked up a '95 for super-cheap and I'll probably sell it next year for more than I bought it for.   So this is a reminder to all those out there looking for new rides.  Check the bike's history!  Not everyone will tell you what you don't want to hear. Tim Ryce A9 - 20900km Hey, Peter. Welcome to the list.  I'm guessing that Holeshot Racing still has the '99 for sale.  FYI, the Y2K model only comes in "Medium Green", the other one is a '99.  I saw the two side by side and decided I like the Y2K better, so I guess the color just grows on you.  They are the same bike mechanically, so it's nice that you have the color choice.  I think if you check around, the new 2001 model should be out before too long, but I don't know if there will be any different colors available. Just curious (jealous?), a Triumph Tiger AND a KLR?  I'll be interested to hear your comparison.  I don't think I've ever seen a Tiger in captivity, just in magazines. I might be heading to the Idaho rally as well on my way back from Moab in August so maybe I'll see ya there.  Which bike ya gonna bring?  Decisions, decisions. Cheers, D. GBG eh14
