[dsn_klr650] regrets for moab

Post by billmonahan » Sat Jun 03, 2000 10:59 pm

Don't feel too bad Sarah....I had to cancel too....I am hoping to close escrow on a new (old) place for me, my bikes, and my little doggies, and I couldn't see being 900 miles away and having the escrow fall apart because I wasn't there to sign something or deliver some odd thing, whatever might come up.  You just never have any way of knowing what is going to become required at the last minute to close an escrow, so I couldn't chance it.   But our new place is more important, so I cancelled Moab after having sent in my check for registration (Gino said he'd toss it out without cashing it) and making campground reservations too.   The good part?  I'll save my vacation time and maybe use it on the Nez Perce Ride in Idaho in August....or maybe do some dirt roading out in Northeastern Oregon.

Guys,My name is Daniel, and I am one of your new listers.Just purchased a 92 KLR 650 for$650.00.Runs great with good maintenance records, the poor guy needed cash.I didn't know how good a deal it really was til I found you guys on the site.I wish it was ready for Moab, but I wanted to check it out some first. It has 7000 original miles and looks like new.I can't wait to get it in the woods.I have been riding for 20 years, but no off road in 15,so any tips or suggestions are appreciated. By the way,I was 4 years in the navy,so I seem to fit the ex-military profile, and since I am single I devote a lot of attention to my bikes.Hope to see ya on the trails. Ride safe,Daniel

Sorry to hear that Sarah. ;   There has been about 10 riders here already for the rally.  Help!  I am not ready for this!!  The only casualty(not related to our rally) here was a German tour leader biting the tarmac with his rental Harley at 80mph.  I had to work late tonite fixing up his bike so the tour could continue on towards Las Vegas.  Kurt S is here with his assortment of weapons (bikes)  including a nice looking black Guzzi Quota.  Watch out Gino, Kurt now has your secret tire combination on his DR650. (D606 & K139).   Everyone that hasn't left for Moab yet, drive to arrive alive!  Bring a long sleeve, light colored cool shirt.  Sunscreen will be a valuable commodity too.  Most importantly bring something to carry lots of water with you.  A single canteen is not enough!   See the rest of you soon.   Fred

I could only manage to squeeze 4 lousy days off work for next weekend. I guess my Moab dream will have to remain a dream. I will make the best of it with a camping trip to The Smokey Mnts. All of yall that are going to Moab, HAVE A GREAT AND SAFE TRIP!!!!!!!! hopefully next year, Mark Wilson http://www.geocities.com/motormark64/ http://www.angelfire.com/mo/motormark/ KLR-650 A-13 "warthogg" XR250R "superfly" Stone Mountain, Ga ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Sorry to you won't be making it, Sarah, Bill, Eric. But that's life and we all have to set priorities. I may only be in Moab for a day or so myself as my wife's -she's in Phoenix as we speak/write- grandfather is on his death bed and I may be making a fast exit from Moab and going to Phoenix. Bill, your check has been shredded. Eric, your registration has been officially transfered to Bogdan -let's hope that's all that got transfered! ;-) Sarah, good luck on the move. Of most things in life, moving is one of those things I really, really do not enjoy doing. By the by, Bob Donaldson (a.k.a BeemerBigDawg) told me he was looking forward to meeting you. I'll tell him he'll have to wait. Gino

I think I did it in 2nd on my KLR too (15 tooth sprocket). If Doug Bragg would ever let us see the video he made (he had the helmet cam behind me as I went up) we would probably know for sure if I shifted out of first. =) Arne
