Tom, you`re wife is in our prayers. This is a very sobering incident. You`re right. Protective clothing is cheap insurance. For that reason, my gear has padded hard armor, not just pads. My jacket was made in Europe and over there the armor has to be certified, like helmets over here. We wish you and you`re wife well, and very sorry. Skip

Hi all! I just bought a 99 Klr 650 w/1900 mi. for $3500. My brother who checked it out has a 98 and is familar with the KLR's. At the time he looked at it everything looked ok. No test ride,(liability they say)) it was at a dealer but he fired it up and listened to it everything seemed ok. dealer was not a kaw dealer. When i start bike after it has sat overnight it blows light blue smoke for a minute or so then clears off. ...mmmmm that don't look good..... stop a local Kaw dealer get mechanic explain ask whats up. dude says you never know till you open'er up but he felt that it probably has a bad valve seal ...or was it seat??? anyway evidently there is a platic seat/ seal whatever and if over heated it gets brittle and will let a little oil seep into the cylinder hence smoke. he said run it keep an eye on the oil level it could do that forever and not get worse or worsen and then you fix it. he said worst case senerio was a top end rebuild "good winter job". 6 to 8 hours at $55 hr ouch! This was an older guy in his forties who seemed geniune no attitude My quetion is does the above sound right. Anybody have any ideas as to what else it might be? Have no service records or bike history. found orignal dealer sticker called they said they wouldn't have any records other than if they did recall work. Am I the proud owner of a 99 klr with crappy valves???? Waaaaahh!!! Thoughts Please!
