new(ish) klr and a mystery solved

Jane, Congratulations on your purchase. And thanks for letting me know who the "mystery riders" on the ferry were. Sounds like you have yourself a great bike. Enjoy!! Al Phipps A10 Fort St. John, BC ------------------------------------- Jane wrote: ..... Today I picked it up - a '99 with 20k km that I bought from a guy who just came back from a Mexico trip. He and a buddy from Victoria and another from Edmonton planned this for over a year; bought new bikes in January of '99 and after a summer of practice took 4 weeks to go to Baja and Copper Canyon. Al Phipps of the list mentioned a friend seeing them coming back on the ferry to Vancouver Island in April - they are not members of the list, but at least one (Rob) has read it, learned and modified. ..... ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

[dsn_klr650] klr vs the rest of the world

Sounds right to me. I, too, had a low-forties experience running at high speed for a long stretch of Interstate shortly after ending break-in mileage. Now, with 8000 miles on the bike, it does well even under those circumstances. Verle Nelson Cedaredge, CO I think it must be that good gas in Colorado and the other mountain states.  I live in California and we have some really crappy gas.  I usually get about 40-45 mpg.  Unless of course it's all city driving, or I'm running like a maniac on the highway.  Then it hovers around 40.  But the last time I was in Colorado and Utah I consistently got 50 or 52 mpg, and sometimes even more.   On the up side, I took the KLR today out to Upper Lake California which has a huge off road area behind it, winding all over the southern side of the Eel River drainage.  Lots of guys on "real" dirt bikes gave me a double-take seeing my bike coming up the trails and dirt roads.  All in all, some pretty great riding.  I only crashed one time, in some too-soft dirt, not going hard enough on the throttle.  Thanks for the Acerbis handlebar guards, Fred.  They sure do work well.  No damage to much of anything.   Anyone for a California get-together out there this summer?  There is some great riding, swimming, and camping areas as well.
