swingarm bearing lube procedure?

Post by Weaver, Mark » Thu Jun 01, 2000 12:40 pm

i searched the archives a bit, but maybe not well. has someone posted an easy-to-follow procedure for dismantling and lubing my swingarm and linkage pivots? i installed a new rear tire yesterday, and was considering delving into the swingarm at the same time, but didn't want to be flying blind, plus my adjustable wrench was insufficient for breaking loose the pivot bolt. rather than round it out, i figured i should wait and get a proper socket and some proper knowledge of what i'm doing. -mw p.s. i was nervous about doing the tire, since i've never changed a motorcycle tire before. it turned out to be pretty easy. i got 3 12" tire irons from the local tire guy. the stock dunlop (6300 miles, not much tread left) came off with surprisingly little trouble. it only took me about a minute to break the bead loose. the replacement (gp110) went on super easy with some help from a tablespoon or so of dishsoap mixed with water, and the bead seated fully before i even got to 27 psi. sweeet. now i feel a little more confident that i can deal with a flat if i should get one in the middle of nowhere. i was gonna wait til moab, but my tire was getting kind of scary bald, and starting to really move around sideways in the dirt, besides, the local tire guy had a gp110 for only $72.
