"Screamers". Has anyone actually used them against a bear? I don't live in an area that has bears (or at least that's the official word), but it's still an interesting idea. >aka

Mine are East German military surplus paraflares. Poke around enough surplus stores and you might still find a few. Havent tested any but I have confidence in NVA equipment.> Chris, > > I don't know what your experience with Skyblazers is, so no offence > but in my opinion they are not worth the money. Smith&Wesson is the mfg. I have a set of them, they come in a nice rubber container that holds the "pin gun" and about 6 flares. Each flare has its own compartment and is completely enclosed. If anyone is willing to pay me way to Moab I will bring it to show all (it was woth the try). As for bears.....might be effective if you hit them in the face with it, or might just piss them off. FWIW a bear can run at 30mph for short distances, the fastest human on record has run at 27mph.
