shift lever broke

Beautiful Sunday ride ended with all my gears dissapearing. I pulled off the road, end almost started vomiting when discovered that my shift lever became a piece of cheese and cracked at the base. Is this covered by the Kawasaki Warranty? Are they gonna "fix it" and put the same garbage on it? How much would it be if I take care of the whole thing? What's a good quality shift lever?
