2001 klr and more...

Post by k650dsn@aol.com » Tue May 16, 2000 2:00 pm

Since I turned DSN over to Kurt, I've lost touch with many of my sources. Today after reading some of the posts regarding the 2001 KLR, I thought I'd contact one of my sources and get some info. This is what I got, but accurracy may be somewhat suspect.... 2001 will be the last year of the KLR650. Kawasaki will only bring in 1000 Last Edition models that will have a Olive/Silver paint scheme like the Super Sherpa. They will also receive the gold rim treatment and some chrome touches to the handlebar, luggage rack and exhaust system. The W650TR Retro dual sport rumor is just a rumor. Kawasaki plans to introduce a high performace single mostl likely called the KLX700RR Super Terra. It will have a liquid cooled 6 valve 700cc single loosely based on the KLX650 engine. Buell will enter the dual sport market in 2001 also. The Buell dual sport code named 'Atlas' will reported use half of an S1 White Lightning engine complete with the twin plug head and valve train. Buell guarantees it will be the most potent single ever put in a dual sport. The Atlas is also going to be inexpensive at $4599 with a guaranteed trade in value of $4200.00 when traded for any Buell or Harley. As I said, this soource has been known to be wrong before. Gino
