I'm in need of some clarifications; can someone explain which Pirelli
tyres(sic) WILL fit the KLR650, and what does all the coding following the
tire size mean?
Example: The stock Dunlops are designated 90/90-21 54R and 130/80-17 65S.
Pirelli tires with the same exact coding:
MT60: with the addition of "TL" at the
end of rear tire coding, which means "tubeless". Pirelli states that TL
designated tires may be fitted as tubed or tubeless. i.e.: 130/80-17 65S TL
Pirelli MT21's, just reported on by "M" Michael Hoyt:
90/90-21 54R (identical to stock
Dunlops)
130/90-17 68P (what's the "68" mean,
and the "P"?)
Pirelli MT70's: 90/90-17 65R (what's the "R" for?
Radial?)
130/80-17 65R
Pirelli Scorpios (MT90): 90/90-21 54H TL
130/80-R17M/C 69 H TL
(what's all that mean?)
Can inch sized tires be substituted for metric size?
MT40: 3.00-21 51R
5.10-17 67T
Any info regarding this topic would be greatly appreciated.

cooling fan; thanks all.
I have completed the mod to control the cooling fan manually. It works
great. I hooked the cooling fan directly to the European Running Lights with
a toggle switch and a 10 Amp fuse inline with the positive lead. Rode around
for about an hour in the city and park turning the fan on only when stopped
at red lights or stop signs. Its really hot today and the temperature guage
never made it past half way. Total cost was:
Electrical tape Radio Shack Cat 6402350 $1.99
Inline Fuseholder Radio Shack Cat 2701281 $1.59
SPST Auto Flip Switch Radio Shack Cat 2750701 $1.99
*Crimp Quick-Disconnects Radio Shack Cat 6403133 $2.98
TOTAL $8.55
Those Quick-Disconnects are really essential as they mate perfectly with the
Cooling fan wire harness receptical and the toggle switch leads. They're
crimped to the wire so there is no soldering or twisting and tapeing. I got
very luckey with the European Running Lights end of the connection; I used
some spare Multi-Meter leads. It turns out that the end of the leads that
plugs into the multi-meter mate perfectly with the European Running Lights
leads. I snipped off the end with the probe and crimped on a
Quick-Disconnect female connector that plugs into the colling fan wire
harnes receptical perfectly. This is really cool because I didn't have to
cut any of the KLR's wires. Oh yea, I mounted the toggle switch (taped) to
the center handlebar. Thanks for all the replies and thanks to whoever set
up this list and the associated web site with the tech-tip archives. I
couldn't have done it without the good people on this list. Next week its
the license plate mod. Take care,
