[dsn_klr650] brake fluid
According to the "Bosch Automotive Engineering Handbook, 2nd ed." page 524.
Conventional brake fluid is designated as DOT (Department of Transportation)
3...
Disc Brake fluid is designated as DOT 4
Vis. at -40C Boiling point
Wet boiling point
DOT3 max.1500 205 C
min 140C
mm2/s
DOT4 max 1800 230C
min.155C
mm2/s
There is no mention in this particular text of DOT 5 fluid. It is for
the most part obsolete in the industry. Yes it is Silicone based and as far
as I know was only used in older British cars, I don't know if it saw use in
bikes or not.
There should be no problem ( I have never heard of one) in mixing 3 &4.
However if you are going to do the right thing and open a fresh sealed
container why not open the one with the higher boiling point, your bike does
have disc brakes afterall. Honda makes superior brake fluid as far as I am
concerned if you are headed for the store.
