After not much thought I pulled the pin > on the left passenger peg and flipped it upside down. A folding grab > handle! If a passenger shows up, I flip it back.

I have not been grabbing the peg but grabbing the peg mount with my right
hand and the cross bar with the left. The first couple of times were
difficult but now it is as if it were meant to be. I have been thinking of
splitting a small piece of rubber hose and zip tying it to the peg mount for
comfort.
