[dsn_klr650] chuckle away
OOOHHH Jim,
That sounds painful.
Pull the core out before you send the can back to ST. You might be able to
work on the busted screw with the core out. Chances are, ST will only
install a new core and charge you for it. For that hassle, just order a
new core and replace it yourself.
If you do manage to get the screw out then you need to go to the hardware
store and buy a TAP. If you have ruined the threads 100% then you have
choices, either over drill and tap it the next size up or fill the hole
with a spot of weld and then drill and tap to the original size. The later
is preferred since you won't get an over sized screw thru your disks. Your
local friendly welder should charge you about $5-$10. Pay him with a smile
and make a new friend. Welders are handy to have around and we've been
known to work for beer on weekends.
You could always fill the hole with JB weld and then drill and tap it but I
wouldn't trust the JB in your can with all that expansion and contraction
going on.
Good luck
LaterZ

Hmmmm..I wonder if that would, at least partially, account for varying reports on engine longevity? Especially on engines that are often run (like mine) at high rpm's.
