filter oil

I've long used a K&N air filter and oiled it with their brand of oil. I haul enough stuff with me when I travel so I've never packed filter oil. In case I need to clean and reoil the air filter what is filter oil made of? What would be a hardware/auto store substitute for the K&N stuff? Bogdan
