Also .. Bryan mentioned that he'd prefer a tank bag that was not too big. In contrast, I tour with a large Wolfman. The klr doesn't have the weight of a Goldwing and I'm not the biggest guy in the world. When I fill my Givi bags, it has a negative effect on handling - especially at low or high speeds. To achieve balance I depend on my tank bag and Rider Warehouse tank panniers; I put heavier items up front; it makes a big difference.

tank bags
After doing a little research I've found a couple of tank bags that can be easily removed and carried as a back-pack. This would be really convenient for flying to Europe. I got out a couple of my day packs for size comparisons and realized most tank bags aren't all that big. Now I'm thinking about the Firstgear Monza. Anyone have one? Know if they'll work on KLRs?
Any comments on magnets vs. straps? I ride a lot of back roads - mining and forest type - but not full on off road riding.
Any other suggestions on tank bags convertible to back packs for a KLR?
