a16-5000 miles-no valve adjust yet

Post by mrmooseisloose » Fri May 02, 2003 3:45 pm

Hey Mark, or anyone that can answer, I have 2 questions: 1. What happens when the motor spins CLOCKWISE? While I was spinning the motor by hand 3 times to recheck the finished valve adjustment clearances, I guess I was mid power stroke when I let up on the wrench and the motor just rolled back (clockwise) about 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Anything to worry about? 2. After rechecking the clearances, which were perfect, I realized that I had not put the cam chain adjuster bolt back in first. So I put it back in and turned the motor over 3 times again and rechecked it and everything was still perfect. Again, anything to worry about? Waiting to hear from someone before I button it back up. Ain't no thang! The motor rolling back by itself a bit while under compression. The cam chain tensioner stayed in proper adjustment as long as you had the cams bolted down when you were rotating the motor. I did the same thing, forgot to put the spring and bolt back. Might be worse if you didn't remove the adjustment bolt and spring before lifted the cams to replace your shims and induced enough chain slack to ratchet the cam chain adjuster to the next tightest position. This would make for a pretty dam tight cam chain once you torqued your cam caps back down. Your ok, get the dam thing put back together and do some ridin! wheel bearing follies

Post by monahanwb » Fri May 02, 2003 8:33 pm

I took off my rear wheel last night to get a new tire put on it up at the shop up the street - while checking the bearings the disc side rear bearing seemed dry and a little notchy, so I looked up the info to replace it - on the FAQ - which showed a 6004 going on that right- rear location. I called the shop and they didn't have one in stock so I took a trip to local bearing emporium and got a 6004. When I picked up the wheel this afternoon it turns out the correct bearing is a 6204, which they did have in stock and installed in the location that the FAQ says takes a 6004. It all goes together right, it appears, though I am not up for a test ride in the heavy rain right now, but it does make me wonder if there is some incorrect information posted somewhere?
